Ethan Young

I'm a senior at the University of Wisconsin, Madison (Fall '19) studying in the fields of Computer Science and Industrial and Systems Engineering with an interest in Software Engineering and Computer Engineering. As a double major in 2 STEM fields, a Founder and Co-President of a UW-Madison Student Organization, and a representative on a committee allocating $50 million in student segregated fees, I don't shy away from challenges.

Let me know if you'd be interested in getting to know more about me!

Areas of Experience

Computer Science

Graduating in winter of 2019 with a Bachelor's in Computer Science, I aim to obtain a Master's in a relevant field after working in industry for a few years. I have experience in implementing cyber security concepts, Dev Ops, and low-level automation software development.

Public Speaking

Whether it is through a TEDx talk on the importance of project-based learning or giving advice to 1,000 incoming freshman engineers, I am very familiar with articulating my points and relaying them to an audience. Public Speaking is an important part of making any idea a reality.

Business & Persuasion

Being on a 15 person committee responsible for allocating $50,000,000 in student segregated fees taught me the importance of clearly articulating opinions in discussions and how to convince others of your point of view. Learning how to read and act on a budget was also beneficial.

Industrial & Systems Engineering

Accumulating internship experiences in both software development and manufacturing has shown me firsthand the importance of efficiency in software and business. ISyE has given me an avenue to solve real-world system problems through linear programming, simulations, and other concepts.

Management & Leadership

Seeing a lack of interdisciplinary project-based learning at UW-Madison, I founded and led a UW-Madison student organization to fill that void. After being at the President for 2.5 years, Insight Wisconsin grew to over 80 undergraduates that completed upwards of 15 engineering design projects. While managing an executive board of 8 people, I learned many valuable interpersonal lessons on how to inspire success and handle controversy among peers.
